Holy shit. I just read this article in the Metro about SEPTA thinking of an unlimited ride day pass...
A new SEPTA pass that allows unlimited use on the agency's entire system will go before the SEPTA Board for a vote Thursday, but the region's leading advocacy group is already calling it the most comprehensive one-day pass ever.
The pass will cost $10 for one person and $25 for a family of up to five people, SEPTA said. It would allow unlimited rides on Regional Rail, subway, trolley or bus lines within a single day.
I find this good and bad. The good: this is wonderful for families in the 'burbs who are thinking of coming into town. Buuuuut, they're still scared shitless of the big evil city and aren't totally comfortable without a car. The bad: where's the unlimited day pass for city only? It's the missing link and it should also be implemented and the stupid convenience pass, which is only good for 8 total rides (that's including transfers, still no free transfers in Philly like so many [all?] other cities), should be killed off.
On the whole though, I think this is a step in the right direction and will gladly pat SEPTA on the back for this one. But I'll also be slapping SEPTA in the face with the other hand for everything else.
Push
We'll see what happens Thursday though. This story was posted online at 8.53p last night. Has anybody seen a story anywhere else in the city?
UPDATE:
It's been approved and will roll out in April

I've lived in Chicago and NYC and DC...and now I live here.
All of them had day passes. All of them also had SAFE subway corridors with transit workers in view of the platform. (Or Dunkin Donuts IN THE STATION..!!) This made me -- as a single tiny female -- more likely to take the train at night instead of a cab. In fact, I never took cabs.
Now, I take PATCO at night, and I'm literally in a station with drunken idjits going back to Jersey. I know PATCO != SEPTA, but there's no one working down in SEPTA either at night....
Instead of spending millions on marketing gimmicks, studies, and trading cards, how about at the very least adding change machines to all the stations that can read a $5 bill? This is great and all but they need to be investing time and money on their regular customers: commuters and people who use SEPTA as their main means of transportation.
This day pass is good for the city folks too. You can ride any mode of transportation all day for $10

How has SEPTA failed you?
