The Stack

Three In A Row
Over the last 6 years or so of living here in Philly, I've come to humbly accept many things. One of those things is that without fail, I'll see 2 or 3 of the same buses right behind each other on Walnut or Chestnut St each and every week. Above is a shot by Phillybits of, what I've come to call, The Stack: 3 SEPTA buses in a row. He was standing at 46/Spruce when he saw them coming down the street and he had his camera with him (as always).

Three Out, One In
He writes:
After waiting for about 20 minutes for the Eastbound Route #42 bus to come, these three Westbound Route #42 buses came down Spruce St., bumper to bumper at 46th St.
An all too familiar scene for all Philadelphians. How many times have you seen this on the 9/12/21/42 route? I literally see this on a weekly basis walking around Center City. And it's not like all of them are full either. It would be one thing if the lead bus was packed and the second bus was picking up the next load of people [and the third one is there for what? In case of a breakdown?]. There's gotta be a better way to manage the timing of the routes.

Send in your comments/rants/stories/photos/videos! Rants everything else.

  2. The 9/12/31/42 routes are basically the only ones I ever take and I hate them. The 12 is the most convenient to and from work for me but it doesn't run NEARLY often enough and it's never on time so it's really just more of a hassle!

  5. I think the big problem is people who are always blocking traffic and holding the buses (and everyone else on the street) up.

  6. Hey, that's the corner I get off at every night!

    Dumb 42 bus!

I've stopped taking the bus in the morning because of back-ups like this...now I just walk a few more blocks to 46th and Market to get the subway.

    It's rediculous.
