SEPTA: Spreading the Love

Rider Jenna writes in with a very recent story pertinent to a current promotion going on involving several entities in the city...

Last night I was watching the news and briefly caught the story about the forthcoming Septa discounts. I thought I heard that the $1 fare thing would start today (2/12)... so this morning at Lombard/South I asked boothman if my fare would be $1. He kindly responded, "You are the third person to ask me that today, it's $2." I said, "But the news said...." He replied, "I don't care what the news said, I don't work for the news, I work for SEPTA." That’s right, he just called Nutter a damn liar.

I thought: Well kind sir, if you work for SEPTA shouldn't you know about the discount? Shouldn't you know that it starts tomorrow? Shouldn't you have told me that info... politely? Uh, yes, yes, and yes.

From the GPTMC site about the Spread the Love promotion:

  1. As a first-time rider in Philadelphia, I was confused to paying a fare at 10 p.m. at night. I couldn't locate a token in my pocket, and then the fare counter was closed.

I now see the advertising for the $1 fare over the next 3 days ... which is confusing for someone who doesn't live here. I now surmise that we should be paying the ticket taker ... which could increase lineups over the weekend.

  2. Are those the normal regional rail prices? I always pay $15 round trip to get to zone 6...

  3. Oh PS. I went to the El station at 40th on Saturday...there was no person in the booth (to take our $1). So everyone just walked through the door that was left open. Suckas!

  4. I was thinking about that while I was waiting for an hour on the University City platform for the westbound R3 that never came on Friday night. And then when I waited for another hour to get onto the MFL because they finally told us that people taking westbound trains were SOL.

  7. Septa didn't check my ticket today, so I got a free ride. Also, once I forgot my monthly trailpass but since I was a daily rider at the time the taker remembered me and let me slide.

I guess those are fails? I dunno, Septa's been pretty good to me.

  8. 50/50 why? I really notice that sometimes septa doesn't come on time. Back then there were some people were not at the booth at some stations. For example,40th street station and I don't know why is that though. another thing that i wish septa just sell things for travelers to use for a long time over and over instead of the time expires on tranpass. The other hand septa really do it's job very well. For the most part septa performance is excellent no matter what. In order for our vistors the ride septa again please let's keep the transit clean and the entire septa system clean and green.
